There were recent Starbucks Rewards changes announced…
Starbucks recently made some changes regarding how many stars you need to redeem for freebies. If you take a look at the newly updated redemption options in their app, you’ll now see that most of the offerings have increased anywhere from 50 to a whopping 100 more stars for redemption. Ouch! That definitely hurts a little.
On the upside, if an iced coffee or tea was previously your go-to for a free drink, you can now snag those for just 100 stars instead of 150. Or if you’ve been working towards a free bag of prepackaged coffee, you’ll be excited to see that you can snag that freebie for 100 stars less than you previously could. 🎉
Plus, Starbucks has also expanded the options available to redeem for 100 stars by adding packaged snacks, and reusable plastic cups to the lineup.
Starbucks Star Rewards redemption options:
- 25 Stars: Swap in any milk substitutions, syrups, or an extra shot of espresso free of charge. – no change!
- 100 Stars (increased from 50): Enjoy a free coffee, iced coffee or tea, packaged snacks, bakery item (such as a cake pop or cookie), Siren Logo Plastic To-Go Cold Cup 24oz, or a Siren Logo Plastic Hot Cup 16oz
- 200 Stars (increased from 150): Grab a free handcrafted drink (including Cold Brew, Lattes, and more) or a hot breakfast item.
- 300 Stars (increased from 200): Indulge in a free protein box, salad, or sandwich, or take home a bag of coffee (coffee was previously 400 stars)!
- 400 Stars: Signature mug, drink tumbler, or select coffee merch (you’ll pay the difference if the cost is over $20).
Reloading your Starbucks card and paying directly on the app allows you to receive two stars for every dollar. If you pay with your card or cash, you can still scan for rewards and will get one star for every dollar. If you bring a reusable Starbucks cup, you’ll also save 10¢ with every purchase!
How does Starbucks Rewards work?
Whether you’re a regular customer or just stop in on occasion, the Starbucks Rewards Program is a must! First of all, it’s completely free to join. Aside from earning stars for every purchase, they frequently offer special promotions to earn bonus stars.
Plus, you need to be a member when they offer Starbucks for Life and other instant win games to score free stars, free drinks, gift cards and so much more.
Here’s a quick overview of how their rewards program works. First, you create an account, which you can do on the app to fully access everything. Then you can start ordering drinks in-store or ahead for pickup and pay however you’d like: cash, card, or in-app. Finally, you earn stars that you can redeem for free treats!
Do Starbucks Rewards Expire?
Unfortunately, yes. Stars (the points you use to redeem Rewards) expire 6 months after earning them. Luckily, when redeeming Stars for Rewards, the oldest Stars will be applied so that they are less likely to expire before you have a chance to use them. Be sure to sign up for emails from Starbucks so you can be notified when your Stars will soon expire.
